From the Commander in Chief

On behalf of the officers of Massachusetts Consistory and myself, congratulations to our newest members of the Valley of Boston who participated in the Valley of Boston's one-day class on November 1. I hoped that you enjoyed the day and will join us again at our spring rendezvous.

There are many ways that you can become active in Consistory. First, you received a passport at the one-day class which allows you to track the degrees you have seen. Mark your calendar and join Perfection on February 28 and the Valley of Boston on March 28 as the Valley performs more degrees to add to your passport. You can also complete your passport by attending any Valley in the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. If you are interested in visiting another Valley, please call the Valley of Boston office at 617-426-8228 for contact information.

Whether it be Lodge of Perfection, Princes of Jerusalem, Rose Croix, or Consistory, I sincerely hope that you will become active in one of these four bodies. If you are not one who likes to be on stage, there is lots of behind-the-scene work that is critical to the production of the degrees. Our Production Team does a great job supporting all four bodies and is comprised of sound, stage, lighting, and make-up crews.

Massachusetts Consistory also sponsors several groups that you may be interested in.

Massachusetts Consistory degree workers are cast to perform in the 19° to the 32°. Our degree workers combine the rigors of acting with a healthy dose of fun. In addition to performing here in our Valley, we have taken the 22°, also known as the Woodchoppers Degree, on the road to the Valleys of Portland, Worcester, Providence, New Haven, CT, and Chicago, IL. We are always looking for new workers for both speaking and non-speaking parts. Let us know if you want to help!

Our very enthusiastic Choir currently performs for our 32°. They rehearse at the regular rehearsals that take place prior to a degree. We are also exploring the Choir performing at other locations in addition to our Valley. We are very lucky to have Bro. Patrick Botti, 32º, as our Choir Director. Patrick has guest conducted numerous orchestras worldwide including the Paris Conservatory Orchestra, the BBC and Royal College of Music Orchestra in London. He has also conducted here in Boston at the Boston Philharmonic and the New England Conservatory orchestras, to name a few. Contact the Choir Director for more info!

Our Guard is led by Captain William R. Currier, 32º MSA, who has been a member of the Guard for over 30 years and Captain of the Guard for the last ten years. The Guard helps out by greeting and assisting both new and veteran members on Degree Days. They are also active socially outside of Consistory, getting together for dinners and a weekend retreat with wives or girlfriends to Providence. They are a group that performs an important service and knows how to have a good time. Contact Bro. Currier to sign up.

Finally, the Massachusetts Chapter of the Knights of St. Andrew is all about fun and fellowship. The Knights also help out on Degree Days, greeting candidates as they arrive in the morning and assisting during the social period at the end of the day, but the Knights are definitely the social club of the Valley of Boston. 32° Masons and their wives or girlfriends gather at Knights-sponsored events such as an evening at a local establishment to enjoy some musical entertainment. More information about the Knights of St Andrew can be found at their website.

As you can see, there is a general theme that runs through each of these groups – FUN! I am confident that you can find a group that suits your interests.

I wish you and your family a joyous holiday season and a happy and healthy new year.
