Each Scottish Rite degree needs a number of men to escort officers and dignitaries. These men are the Massachusetts Consistory Guard. This group in Scottish Rite is a fellowship for service. If you have experience marching as a DeMolay, in a branch of the military, or in a marching band, serving in this group may be ideal for you. To be part of this distinguished group of men, there are yearly dues of $25.
Just as non-speaking roles are an integral part of any degree; so are the roles of those in the Guard. The Guard plays two major roles in a degree. The first is to escort the officers in and out of the room during the 32º and the second is to escort visiting dignitaries into the degrees.
Before inquiring, there are certain requirements you must meet. You must be a 32º Mason, be able to stand all day from approximately 6 AM to 6 PM, hold a sword upright for 5 minutes at a time, have the ability to move around a building, be willing to be part of a team, and to perform any tasks which may be assigned to you by the Captain of the Guard.
If you want to have the full Scottish Rite Degree experience here in the Valley of Boston, and feel that you meet all of these requirements, inquire about becoming a member of the Massachusetts Consistory Guard today! If you’re interested in learning more or in joining, please contact the Captain of the Guard, William Currier.
